Court Rejects Settlement in Copyright Infringement Suit Involving Google's Digital Book Scanning Project: Read My Article for the California Bar Association

A U.S. Federal district court jusge has rejected a proposed $125 million settlement agreement in a class action copyright infringement lawsuit filed by authors and publishers against Google.

I was recently asked to write an article about the court's opinion for the Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of California, along with my colleague, Jennifer J. Hagan.  The article provides useful background and context about the court's decision.  The article is available here.

The case is The Authors Guild et al. v. Google Inc., U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Case No. 05 Civ. 8136.  The court's opinion is available here.
